TT race organisers face uncertainty over the race schedule with a mixed bag of weather conditions forecast for the week.
The Supersport was delayed yesterday (Monday) due to mist on the hills. The Superstock was called off entirely.
A Met Office spokesman said the outlook was ‘not straightforward’ with showers forecast on both race days, but better conditions for the other days.
‘It looks like there will be some showers around on both Wednesday and Friday, with probably more persistent rain later in the day on Friday,’ he said.
‘Tuesday and Thursday both look more or less OK so there’s a bit of scope for manoeuvre.’
Talking about Senior Race Day as the Isle of Man Examiner went to press, the spokesman added: ‘Friday is at the limit of our range.
‘There are various different scenarios, all of which point towards rain towards the end part of the day, and there’s potential for heavy rain.
‘Hopefully it will be late enough not to disrupt the racing.’
Meanwhile, with an average temperature of 9.6C, spring was the second mildest on record, the latest figures from the Met Office show.
March to May temperatures were second only to spring 2007. But with only 443 hours of bright sunshine, spring was the dullest since 1993, and last month was the dullest on record.
There were only 149.5 hours of bright sunshine during the month, compared to the May average of 225.4 hours, making it the dullest May since the Met Office started recording sunshine in 1948.
Rainfall at Ronaldsway in May totalled 83.6mm, 66 per cent above normal.
The wettest day at the airport was May 19 when 18.4mm was recorded in the spectacular thunderstorms, while a localised downpour in the early hours of May 10 created more serious flooding in parts of Douglas.
May was the sixth consecutive month the average temperature was above normal – due to mild nights rather than high daytime temperatures.
The average overnight minimum temperature measured 9.2C compared to the long term average of 7.8C.
The lowest the temperature dropped during the month was 7.2C on May 3 and the maximum of 20.6C was recorded on May 19.
At 11.5mph, the average wind speed was only slightly below normal. The highest gust of 41mph was measured at Ronaldsway on May 23.
