Ellan Vannin’s dream start to the ConIFA World Cup continued on Monday evening as they beat French outfit Countea de Nissa FA 4-2 in Sweden.
That result coupled with the previous day’s impressive comeback win over Nagorno Karabakh means the mighty Manx top Group D and go into Wednesday’s quarter-finals against Kurdistan.
In contrast to Sunday’s win, the Manx raced into a surprise three-goal lead against their opponents thanks to a hat-trick from Calum Morrissey.
The St George’s talisman’s treble included two penalties, the latter of which saw the Nice keeper receive his marching orders after a second yellow card,
The 10-men rallied, pulling one back in the 37th minute before setting up a nervy final quarter of an hour when they struck a second in the 74th minute.
Peel’s Daniel Bell, however, calmed Manx nerves when he stuck home in the 87th minute to maintain Ellan Vannin’s 100 per cent record in international football.
Kick-off on Wednesday evening is 6pm.
