Peel full-back Daniel Lace overtook Steven Corkill’s long-held appearance record for the western club on Saturday.

The Sunset City side’s Canada Life Premier League victory over already-relegated RYCOB was Lace’s 687th senior outing for the Douglas Road outfit, having made his debut in September 1993.

The 37-year-old, who was given the captaincy to mark the occasion, even managed to grab his first goal in nearly two years during Steve Falconer’s team’s 11-2 win in the north. With Corkill still eligible for the club’s masters side and Lace now serving a three-match suspension, the former may claim back the record before the end of the season.

The Peel squad for the game at Scooil Ree Gorree had a different look to usual with some new and some not-so-new faces included within. Ex-first-team player-manager and Isle of Man FA centre-back Rob Cottier donned the goalkeeper gloves two years after injury forced him to retire from outfield play. Cottier’s former defensive partner Nigel Shimmin also enjoyed an outing from the bench, his first appearance for the first team since the Railway Cup Final on January 9, 2011.

Former St John’s man Cliffy Dunn also broke a Peel record in the weekend’s match, becoming what is believed to be the club’s oldest first-team debutant at the age of 48 years, three months and seven days when he entered the fray as a substitute.
