Manx-born footballer Kieran Tierney continued his remarkable rise through the professional ranks by being named as the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year.
At the association’s end-of-season awards ceremony on Sunday night, the 18-year-old Celtic left-back held off the challenge of Rangers’ Barrie McKay as well as Hibernian duo Jason Cummings and John McGinn to clinch the award.
In doing so, Tierney made it a double success for Celtic, after his team-mate Leigh Griffiths won the main Player of the Year accolade. Tierney has been a near ever-present this season, making 32 appearances on his way to being rewarded with a call-up to the Scotland national squad in March’s 1-0 friendly victory over Denmark.
The youngster commented: ‘ It’s a feeling that’s just so hard to describe. The amount of games I’ve played has surprised me and the big games I’ve played in has surprised me.
‘A lot has surprised me this year and it’s been great to make a big jump.’
