SUMMARY justice was swiftly meted out at Castle Rushen during Heron and Brearley’s Jailbreak 2012 fundraiser organised in support of Age Concern.

Some 33 corporate teams were picked up from their place of work and arrested by officers from Manx Constabulary.

They were conveyed to Castle Rushen where they were banged up in the dungeons and then tried in court before Judge Laurence Vaughan Willams. With no defence allowed, the verdicts were inevitable.

The Mad Hangman and his wife, aka Michael Bonner and Lisa Kreisky, carried out the dreadful sentences given. Beheading, hanging and wet sponging in the stocks was decided for many of the criminals. Visitors to the castle joined in and helped with the wet sponging at 50p a go.

Finally, Carole Male of Age Concern was put in the dock, tried and sentenced to continue arranging Jailbreak each year.

Escaped prisoners found their way to Glen Wyllin for a night under canvas before making their way to Ardwhallin where they won points for completing various tasks and exercises.

The Heron and Brearley Jailbreak Shield was won by Team Noble’s Nurses consisting of Clare Bettison, Fiona Carolan and Kirsty Steventon.

Two junior teams – The Cube and Team Air Cadets – competed for the Jailbreak Junior Shield. Having both initiative (cheating) and continually sabotaging the other team’s efforts, it was decided to award them the status of joint winners.

Teams taking part were Team Zurich International, Team Noble’s Nurses, Team Noble’s Doctors, Team Noble’s Midwives, Team The Crescent, Team Appleby, Team HSBC International (last year’s winners), Team Heron and Brearley, Team Bad Intentions, Team Snap Crackle and Pop, Team The Cube and Team Air Cadets.

The event received the sponsorship and support of H&B, Spar, G4S, Tours IoM, Appetites, Blue Olive Productions, Manx Gas, Ye Olde Spitting Pig, Civil Defence, Harrison and Garrett Butchers, Ramsey Bakeries, Orry Lewin, Kirk Michael Commissioners, 440 Air Cadets and Isle of Man Police.
