TO mark the start of the school summer holidays and the opening of the London Olympic Games, Manx Sport and Recreation (MSR) are running a special Olympic week, running from Monday to Friday next week at the National Sports Centre in Douglas.
Children can sign up for one or more of the days, or for the whole week, and take part in a range of indoor and outdoor Olympic sports around the centre.
Featured sports include the rare opportunity to try out boxing, archery, handball and fencing, as well regular sports including athletics, football, basketball, tennis, hockey, bowls and table tennis.
Children will be allocated a country to represent, and those who have signed up for the full week will receive medals and certificates, and will take part in Friday’s closing ceremony, which will include dancers, music and marching, on the athletics track for the older children, and indoor for the youngest.
There are still spaces available for children in school years 5, 6 and 7.
