TWO sisters have raised more than £1,400 for an Indian orphanage.

Katie and Ellie Cannell, aged 14 and 10, of Kirk Michael, decided to raise money for the Ebenezer Home of Social Outreaches, in Chennai, after visiting it with their parents.

They were struck by the fact that there were no beds for the children to sleep on.

To help the Christian-based orphanage raise £9,000 to pay for 100 bunk beds, Katie organised a range of fundraising events with the help of her classmates at King William’s College. They include a sponsored silence and cake sale.

Ellie, who goes to The Buchan School, raised £300 with a pyjama day at her school.

Katie and Ellie are continuing to raise money for the orphanage. To make a donation email Katie and Ellie’s mum Susie on susiecannell@manx.net or find out more about the orphanage at www.ehso.org
