Castletown’s Christmas lights switch-on will be held in the square on Saturday thanks to the progress being made on the regeneration scheme.
The scheme has led to the closure of the whole square since the summer, but should be two-thirds complete by the weekend.
The switching-on ceremony will take place at 5pm.
It will be preceded by festive fun in the library from 9.30am to 12.20pm, while from 4.15pm there will performances in the square by Buchan School and Market Square Prep School choirs before Castletown Metropolitan Silver Band play carols from 4.45pm.
Last week, commissioner Kevin Weir said: ‘The contractors have got to be congratulated, they are ahead. There has been a lot of feedback, most of it very positive, about how things are looking. We should congratulate the guys.’
Commissioners’ chairman Alwyn Collister said: ‘It’s very dark in The Square - someone could fall there. There are no lights on the castle side. There is no need for them to be switched off.’
A dip near Lloyd’s Bank will be corrected, the commissioners learnt.
The authority agreed to buy two new noticeboards, costing £1,400 each, for the square.
The telephone box will also be removed, but the one in Parliament Square will remain.
