Exciting new ideas have been discussed for Peel Carnival as committee members met with the Liverpool Carnival Company.
Chairman Ian Baker, treasurer Margaret Jones and artistic director Greg Joughin of the Peel Carnival Committee (PCC) took a trip to Liverpool to meet Debbie Boyd from the Liverpool Carnival Company to talk about new plans for the island event.
An idea in the pipeline included carnival inspired workshops in the lead up to the main event where schoolchildren and island residents could get involved with various carnival activities.
Treasurer Margaret Jones said: ‘We were all very excited about the potential for working with the Liverpool Carnival organisers. An article in the Liverpool Echo had initiated our approach to the company and we were delighted that Debbie was so enthusiastic about helping us enhance our event.’
This year’s carnival, which took place in August, saw stilt acrobats, musicians and dancers all participate in the fun-filled day with the grand parade taking centre stage featuring a variety of floats.
Greg Joughin said: ‘Peel Carnival’s fortunes have varied over its 65 years of existence and with the best will in the world it’s difficult to keep coming up with new ideas.
‘Now though, we can return home invigorated and set to work bringing together all the many elements that will make up Peel Carnival 2016.’
