Manx Cancer Help has launched its new Manx Movember campaign asking men to wear their facial fuzz with pride throughout November and raise vital funds for the charity.
Inspired by Movember, which seeks to make a global contribution to men’s health, Manx Movember aims to raise local awareness of male cancer and encourage men to make use of the services provided by Manx Cancer Help.
The charity says that when it comes to health and emotional wellbeing, too many men are reluctant to talk about their problems, and it wants to change that.
Established in 1983, the charity provides specialist psychological therapies for people with cancer and their loved ones.
It offers a series of free, confidential sessions, face-to-face and over the phone, to anyone affected by cancer.
The campaign also has support from Manx National Heritage, which has provided images of magnificently moustachioed men to be used in the campaign, and the Department of Home Affairs, which will be assisting with fundraising throughout November.
The main event will be held on November 15 at Onchan Raceway, where teams will have the chance to flex their muscles and take part in challenges such as a monster truck pull and a tug of war.
Not forgetting Movember’s origins, Manx Cancer Help is eager to see picture proof of people’s efforts during the hairiest month of the year, and is inviting everyone to share photos of their moustaches on its Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages, accompanied by the hashtag #ManxMovember.
Participants are welcome to raise funds via a JustGiving page, sponsorship forms that can be requested from Manx Cancer Help, or to donate directly at www.manxcancerhelp.org
Andrea Chambers, chief executive officer at Manx Cancer Help, said: ‘While our Manx Movember campaign is designed to raise awareness of male cancers and encourage men to be open about their psychological wellbeing, we would love for everybody to get involved and support Manx Cancer Help during November.
‘We have some fantastic fundraising events lined up, but we are also very excited to see what other fundraising ideas people have for Manx Movember – and for people to show us what we are sure will be a range of fine moustaches!’
Ian Clague, senior partner at sponsor PwC added: ‘We are delighted to get behind this fantastic campaign and to support such a worthwhile local charity. We really believe in what Manx Cancer Help is hoping to achieve with Manx Movember – for men affected by cancer to open up about any emotional or psychological problems they may be facing, and to make use of the services that it offers.
‘Manx Cancer Help offers an incredible service for anyone affected by cancer, and it will be wonderful to see the different ways in which our local community shows support for this campaign. We will be sure to share the efforts of the PwC office too, of course!’
