Ivan Lintin claimed his first TT victory by holding off James Hillier to win the Bennetts Lightweight TT on Senior Race Day.
The Bardney rider triumphed by more than three seconds in what proved to be a record-breaking race, with Hillier setting a new lap record as the winner set a new race record.
Lintin led almost from start to finish in Friday morning’s race, with only runner-up Hillier and Jamie Hamilton briefly leading the way between the Grandstand and Glen Helen on the first and second laps respectively.
Ryan Farquhar, one of the favourites to win the race, enjoyed a good tussle with the eventual winner but was hit with a 30-second penalty for speeding in the pitlane as the leaders pitted at the end of the opening lap.
Having not pitted, the aforementioned Hamilton raced into the lead at the start of the second lap but Lintin soon overhauled him again by the time they reached Ballaugh for the second time.
Further back, Farquhar, Hillier and Lee Johnston were battling it out for a place in the top three. Gary Johnson was forced to retire in the pits, while there was also disappointment for Farquhar who retired at Cronk-y-Voddy.
As the race reached two-thirds distance, Lintin remained in front with a healthy four-second lead over Hillier but the latter was able to reduce the lead slightly by a second on the run up to Ballaugh.
However, Lintin was soon on a charge again and increased his advantage back up to 4.9s by the time they reached Ramsey for the final time and he was able to guide his machine safely home to claim his maiden TT victory 3.875 seconds ahead of Hillier.
Dorset rider Hillier was given the consolation of setting a new Lightweight TT lap record of 120.848mph - indeed the top four were all over the 120mph mark - while Lintin smashed the race record by a whopping 36 seconds.
