Young Manx rugby players James Maddrell and George Blackwell were part of the Kirkham Grammar School side that won the prestigious North of England under-18 sevens competition earlier this month.
This followed on from the team’s win at the Birkenhead Schools’ Sevens tournament.
Former St Ninian’s student James was also awarded the Player of the Tournament at the North of England event.
Both competitions included sides from across England, Scotland and Wales.
Their school last won these competitions in 2009, with four members of that squad going on to be full international players.
Both Manxies are supported by Isle of Man Sport Aid through the Gubay Fund for Sporting Excellence, while James’s travel is supported by Isle of Man Steam Packet.
The pair are furthering their A levels and rugby careers in the UK, which means they come up against top schools every week in both 15 and seven-a-side matches.
