Firefighters put out a kitchen fire in Onchan last night.
They were called at 8pm to Lag Birragh Drive, off King Edward Road.
The home owner told the firefighters that the fire had been in the cooker extractor hood and that he was concerned that it may have spread to the loft space.
The owner altackled the initial fire with a garden hose before the fire service arrived.
The electrical supply to the extractor hood was isolated and crews entered the loft with a thermal imaging camera and hose reel to survey the extent of the fire spread.
Once the fire was confirmed as being fully extinguished crews removed fire damaged ducting and loft insulation to ensure the property was left in a safe condition.
Further inspection of the cooker hood revealed that the fire had been caused by a fault on the internal motor and that the surrounding hood had prevented the fire from spreading into the main kitchen area.
Although the occupier successfully tackled the fire, firefighters warned him that using water from the garden hose on an electrical fire could be dangerous.
