St George’s remain top of the Canada Life Premier League after they beat Laxey 3-1 at Glencrutchery Road.
A brace from Frank Jones and a single strike from Sam Caine cancelled out Fraser Vaughan’s goal to put the reigning champions four points clear at the head of the standings. Title rivals Peel, who weren’t in action this afternoon, now have two games in hand on Chris Bass Sr’s men as the westerners aim to secure the top-flight for the first time since the 2001-02 season.
At the bottom of the table it’s as you were with the bottom three, Gymns, Union Mills and Michael - all losing to Rushen, Ramsey and Ayre respectively.
Mills came closest to claiming a point, going down 3-2 to Ramsey, who came from behind to claim the win thanks to Danny Allison 71st-minute goal.
In JCK Division Two, Colby are back in the promotion mix after they beat early pacesetters RYCOB 3-0. Andy Blake, Alex Guy and Jim Collett were on the scoresheet for the southerners who stay fourth.
Douglas Athletic remain top after they beat Douglas and District 2-1 at Noble’s Park. Ste Cowan’s double puts the Pinks seven points clear, although they have played a couple of games more than the teams around them.
Marown are up to second thanks to a 3-1 win at Douglas Royal - Kevin Druggan (2) and Ashley Higginbotham on target for the Crosby outfit.
The outstanding Paddy Power FA Cup preliminary round match was also played this afternoon, Onchan edging nine-man Foxdale 5-4 after extra time to tee up a first round proper encounter with St George’s in two weeks time.
