LAST year’s Grand National winner Ballabriggs – owned by Isle of Man millionaire Trevor Hemmings – is proving popular in betting shops in the run up to this year’s event on Saturday.
Island boss of bookmaker Joe Jennings, Sid Cunningham, said its betting shops – four in Douglas and one in Ramsey – already face a potential total pay out of £20,000 if Ballabriggs wins – and if the volume of customers continues, it could rise to £250,000. Last year the firm paid out more than £150,000 due to bets on Ballabriggs.
