Peel’s victory in the latest Old Firm clash in the Premier League has been rewarded with no fewer than four of their players being named in the latest Team of the Week.
Having suffered a run of poor form which saw them lose to Union Mills, draw with Corinthians and crash out of the FA Cup against Ramsey, the westerners bounced back in style with an impressive 2-0 victory over Rushen United.
One of the game’s talking points was the performance of Rob Cottier who, having started the game outfield, ended the contest as goalkeeper after Peel No1 Joe Kelly was sent off.
Cottier then proceeded to pull off a number of fine saves to keep a cleansheet in his side’s win, and thus he claims the goalkeeper gloves in the latest TotW.
Two of his Douglas Road team-mates line up in a five-man defence just in front of him, with Andrew Crennell and Daniel Lace getting the nod after also excelling in the game at Croit Lowey - the latter earning his fifth TotW appearance of the season.
Slotting in alongside the Peel duo are DHSOB’s Iain Ramsey and the St Mary’s pairing of skipper Dominic McGreevy and Neil Brogan.
Continuing the theme of clean sheets, all three defenders were in fine form as they helped their sides snuff out attacks from Castletown and RYCOB respectively.
Also impressing against Youthie was Brian Crellin who netted one of the Saints’ five goals so he has been rewarded with a place in a three-manmidfield.
Joining him in the centre of the park is Ramsay’s Blackberry Lane colleague Darren Hudgeon and Peel star Lee Gale. Hudgeon grabbed a goal in his side’s 4-0 victory, while Gale played a key role in the westerners’ aforementioned victory in the south.
Hudgeon’s team-mate Callum Stewart helped himself to Old Boys’ three other goals against Town to claim the matchball and the striker deservedly takes his place as one half of the front two in this week’s selection.
Joining him is Steven Priestnal as he boosted his golden boot ambitions with a two-goal haul against Youthie.
Claiming the refereeing honours in the latest Team of the Week is Gareth Jones who impressed with the whistle in the game between Castletown and Old Boys.
