Plans for Castletown’s market square will be on display at the civic centre from next Monday, April 14 for two weeks.

The plans show the regeneration scheme to realign parking in the square and have been submitted for planning approval.

The scheme provides greater flexibility, parking can be increased or decreased in response to demand and there will be more space for pedestrians and events.

Smaller events can take place in the square without closing it to traffic.

Any parking lost in the square will be accommodated instead in George Paddock car park (near the fire station).

Town MHK Richard Ronan, who is chairman of the Castletown Regeneration Committee said this marks the culmination of two and a half years’ of ‘hard work’.

‘I have been keen to bring together various sectors of the community to ensure that this important project meets a range of requirements and I am grateful for the time and effort that everyone has put in.’

He added: ‘This will be a catalyst for Castletown’s future prosperity and will link in with plans by others such as Manx National Heritage which is bringing forward a scheme for the Castle Rushen Speaker’s Garden.

‘I am also pleased to see prospects of other economic activity in the private sector.’

Committee members will explain the proposals on Monday, April 14 and 28 from 2pm to 7pm.
