RACE the Sun, The Children’s Centre’s annual charity challenge unique to the Isle of Man, is scheduled to return in 2012 on May 19.

The race sets off with the sunrise at 5.08am and takes in 98 miles of Manx coastline, as teams of 10 complete one relay-style clockwise lap of the Raad Ny Foillan coastal footpath – starting and finishing in Peel – before the sun sets at 9.22pm.

Each team member tackles one of 10 pre-determined sections, along rugged cliff tops, lush glens, hill tops, tidal estuaries and isolated beaches.

All money raised by the event, which first ran in 2008, will be used by The Children’s Centre to help support children, young people and families across the Isle of Man. So far a total of £40,000 has been raised, helped by corporate service provider Mann Made Group’s sponsorship each year.

Mann Made’s Alan Hollingsworth said: ‘It is a really fun and interesting challenge, so I would definitely encourage other businesses and groups of friends to step up and take part.’
