Youngsters are invited to learn about live event technology or photography this half term in courses run by the Youth Service.

Both lead to Open Awards.

The week-long sound and lighting course at the Youth Arts Centre, in Kensington Road, Douglas, led by Martin Macfarlane and Paul Ellison will give young people (school years eight and above) an insight into setting up and operating sound and lighting equipment for events.

The group will see behind the scenes at island venues.

They will work towards level one certification in ‘Sound and Lighting Technician’.

The course costs £65. Call 686057 or email m.macfarlane@doe.sch.im

Meanwhile, professional photographer Brian Mitchell is running a photography course at Isle of Man College’s computer suite and photographic studio from February 17 to 21 for students in years 10 and 11.

Participants will explore the creative controls of DSLR cameras – shutter and aperture techniques, flash lighting, making effect filters, and use Adobe Photoshop CS7 image editing software to create stunning digital manipulation.

There will be a number of field trips.

The course costs £75 and is accredited at level two. Call 686057 or 493388.
