Canada Life International is providing sponsorship towards the costs of the Isle of Man Youth Cycling team’s three-day training camp at Newport Velodrome next week.
On announcing the sponsorship, Canada Life International’s managing director Sean Christian, said: ‘As a company we are extremely pleased to help in a small way towards the development of youth cycling in the island.
‘The company follows strict criteria when it comes to considering sponsorship opportunities. We tend to support those charities or organisations that promote sport or other recreational activity to our younger members of society. Youth cycling fits our criteria perfectly in that a number of our staff actively cycle and many have children that are either currently racing in the junior leagues or have benefited from the club in previous years.
‘It is credit to Dot Tilbury and her team that the Isle of Man continues to enjoy British, Commonwealth, Olympic and world success in cycling through individuals such as Mark Cavendish, Peter Kennaugh, Mark Christian and Anna Christian who all progressed through the island’s youth cycling development programme, and we hope that our contribution will lead to further success.’
Dot Tilbury commented: ‘Track cycling features heavily in British Cycling’s development coaching so it is important for young Manx riders to experience this discipline. We are fortunate in securing three days coaching at Newport and will be taking absolute beginners to more experienced riders who will be able to train on the same track the GB squad regularly use.
‘We are extremely grateful to Canada Life International for their generous assistance which has made this trip possible.’
