Manx Harriers and Isle of Man Sport Aid supported athlete Harriet Pryke started 2014 with a silver medal in the women’s 400m final at the Northern Indoor Athletics Championship in Sheffield on Saturday.
The Laxey woman cruised to victory in her heat with a time of 56.38 seconds and led the final for the first 350 metres. But she was then pushed back into second place in an improved time of 55.37.
Despite not winning, Harriet was pleased with both her performances and times as she ran one full second faster in both races than at the same event last year. This bodes very well for the season ahead where she is seeking Commonwealth Games selection.
Harriet also competed in the 200 metre event on Sunday, qualifying for the final, but decided to withdraw from this event as a precaution to fully prepare for next weekend’s indoor competition in London.
