A new 54-bedroom hotel on the site of the former Mannin Hotel, on Broadway, Douglas, is taking shape.
Mannin Investments Ltd was originally granted planning approval and registered building consent for the work, including the partial retention of the front facade.
But it submitted fresh applications when it was discovered the condition of the external walls onto Broadway meant there was ‘no alternative means of retention that allowed a safe retention of the facade with the demolition of the remainder of the building’.
The demolition work began in October 2012.
A section of Broadway was closed to motorists while the six-storey building was demolished. A lot of the building had to be taken down by hand to ensure the protection of adjacent buildings.
Since then, construction on the new hotel, with underground parking, has been progressing. Keith Lord said he hoped the hotel would be completed in about 15 months’ time. (JM140117-114)
