On a day when only four Manx football games survived the bad weather, St Mary’s closed the gap on Canada Life Premier League leaders St George’s after defeating Corinthians at the Bowl on Saturday afternoon.
Darren Cain opened the scoring for the Saints against his former club in the only top flight game of the day before Andy Glover, Neil Brogan and Ste Priestnal also grabbed goals for the hosts as they ran out 4-1 winners. Ryan Burns netted the Whites’ consolation late on.
The result means Sam Kenny’s mean move to within three points of St George’s at the top of the table, although Geordies have two games in hand over their rivals.
Elsewhere, two games went ahead in the GH Corlett Woods Cup, with Marown just about getting the better of Douglas Athletic by the odd goal in five at Springfield Road, while Douglas Royal defeated Foxdale 4-2 at Ballafletcher.
In the only other game to take place, Douglas and District continued their recent excellent form by coming from behind to defeat JCK Combination Two title hopefuls Braddan at Noble’s Park.
The visitors went 1-0 up but Konrad Kumor equalised for D&D and 18-year-old Jake Turner-Oliver came off the bench to score the winner for the hosts to seal their fourth successive victory - a record for the Combi Two side.
