The head of the Roman Catholic Church in South Africa said he was ‘very impressed’ with Isle of Man Post Office’s integrated mailing services division.

Cardinal Wilfrid Napier enjoyed a tour of the headquarters and IMS’s second site at Hills Meadow as part of a four-day visit to the island.

He was keen to see first-hand how staff process the donation payments for his charity which benefit the Catholic Archdiocese of Durban.

‘I have been most impressed with how IMS operates and have found it fascinating to see the various processes and checks that are in place when dealing with our charity donations,’ he said. ‘The security aspect is something we very much value and it’s been great to meet and chat with the staff involved. The technology of the machines fascinated me and the human genius that goes with it to ensure a smooth process.’

Chairman Geoff Corkish presented His Eminence with a set of stamps issued to mark Pope Benedict XVI’s 2010 UK visit. Chief Minister Allan Bell said he had a ‘very warm, friendly and positive meeting’ with Cardinal Napier, adding: ‘He was very strong in his praise for the island, and in particular the Isle of Man Post Office.’

Cardinal Napier met residents for a chat at Coffee Republic. And he celebrated mass at St Mary of the Isle Church, in Douglas.
