THERE was disappointment for Manx cyclist Mark Cavendish on the opening day of the Tour of Oman this afternoon (Tuesday).
On a 159km course from Alam Palace in Muscat to Al Hauqain in Wilayat al Rustaq which suited the sprinters, the Manx Missile looked set to produce another one of his trademark finishes but was seemingly pushed off the road with 1,200 metres to go and was unable to contest the sprint.
After the race, Cav tweeted: ‘Yep, not the best of days today. Ran off the road by Alexander Kristoff with 1,200m to go.’
The stage victory went to Lotto-Belisol rider Andre Greipel - a former team-mate of the Manxman - ahead of Denis Galimzyanov and Tyler Farrar.
The Tour of Oman continues on Wednesday through to Sunday. More information in this week’s Manx Independent.
