AWARD winning photographer Rich Ashcroft is set to host a full day studio workshop for budding photographers.
Rich, who has won the ESB/Age Action national photographic competition, plans to teach participants how to set up and shoot with a seamless high-key white look employed by many studios. Local model Lauren Anderson will be sitting for the morning session, with tailor and designer Claire Boswell providing corsetry.
Rich, 42, from Port St Mary, and whose business is called Rich Ashcroft Photography, said: ‘Richard Avedon, Herb Ritts and countless other great photographers have popularised the white background for decades. It’s simple, effective and makes your subjects pop. It beats the heck out of any wrinkled up brown muslin any day of the week.’
After lunch Rich will teach participants how to download the images into image processing software and detail the various techniques he employs when editing images. He said: ‘Please bring along your cameras and a notepad, although I will be distributing some course notes for those who want them. Each lesson will give participants the opportunity to take their own shots, which will be great for their personal portfolios.’
After registration and coffee, the day will be split into two sessions: one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
The price is £35 per person and this covers tuition, tea/coffee and lunch. To ensure personal attention each course is limited to 15 places. His fascination with photography began at university. He said: ‘Photography for me was a revelation. Witnessing for the first time as I exposed light through a negative on to a piece of paper and watching as, slowly, the image magically came to life – it was a wonder, as it sloshed around in the developer pan.’
