The island’s tennis players and athletes received a heroes welcome when they arrived home from the 2013 NatWest Island Games in Bermuda on Tuesday.

Pictured (left to right) at Ronaldsway airport are the women’s tennis contingent of Karen Faragher, Elena Snidal, team manager Daphne Snidal, Katie Tinkler and Laura Feely. They won a bronze in the women’s team competition, in addition to Karen and Katie who took the silver in the women’s doubles.

Karen also won silver in the mixed doubles with partner Marc Chinn. Laura took the silver medal in the women’s singles and teamed up with Billy Harris to win gold in the mixed doubles, defeating team-mates Chinn and Faragher in the final.

Harris, who earlier in the month had competed in the Junior Wimbledon competition, also won the men’s singles title in Bermuda.

Enjoying their best medal haul in the history of the Island Games, Isle of Man tennis team finished second in the medal table, one gold behind hosts Bermuda, with a tally of two gold, three silver and one bronze medal.

The island’s athletes bagged 15 medals, including six golds. Making it to the top step of the podium were Joe Reid (400m), Kevin Loundes (10,000m and half-marathon), Alan Corlett (Steeplechase) plus the men’s and women’s half-marathon teams.

The Isle of Man won the overall NatWest Island Games competition for the first time since 1989 with 36 gold, 36 silver, 25 bronze.
