MANX badminton star Joshua Green has started the new year in superb form with a brace of wins in Lancashire and Northumberland.

As a member of the England Badminton Performance squad he is contracted to play four Senior Gold tournaments each year.

Last weekend Josh followed up his opening win in Lancashire by winning the Northumberland Gold Open.

He won the men’s singles title in impressive fashion without losing a set.

The 19-year-old cruised through the first rounds on the Saturday, giving him a place in the following day’s semi-final against Welshman Daniel Font. He won the first set comfortably, but had to work hard to secure the second set 21/14 23/21.

Joshua then faced Alex Marritt (Yorkshire) in the final, winning 21/17 in the first but then making a great comeback from 16/20 down in the second set to win 24/22 and take the title.

He completed a successful GB training camp in Leeds undefeated in all his singles matches and headed off on Wednesday to compete in Estonia.

The following weekend he travels to Dusseldorf to represent TV Emsdetten in the German League.

Currently combining a degree with training part-time, Joshua is looking for a sponsor to assist with the costs of competing in international tournaments as it is his ambition to be able to train full-time (on completion of his degree) from May onwards. His goal is to push for world ranking points as he aims to be seeded for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow 2014, where he would proudly represent the Isle of Man.
