THIS week’s Manx Independent is asking its readers to help to protect the island’s sea routes to England.
They’re in jeopardy because of proposed wind farm developments, which would cause Steam Packet boats to travel longer journeys, increase fares and make it much more likely that they’d be cancelled in bad weather.
The wind farms are outside Manx territorial waters.
The Manx Independent has printed a petition form on its front page. It wants its readers to cut it out and send it to the paper, so they can all be presented to the developers to show the strength of feeling in the island.
The paper details the issue inside.
The main story on page 1 concerns Jenny Holt, who was once Trevor Baines’s lawyer. She has been given leave to appeal against a conviction of money laundering.
The paper also asks pupils at one island school what they think about the prospect of having to pay tuition fees from 2014.
There’s more on the riders due to debut in the 2013 TT races.
Meanwhile, we look forward to tomorrow’s Britain’s Got Talent/X-Factor concert.
And there’s a follow up to {http://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/isle-of-man-news/soaked-highway-worker-complains-to-the-police-1-5168975|this story}, which has been the most popular news item online this week.
The Manx Independent has the best coverage of sport and two pages of What’s On.
It’s on sale now.
