THERE’S a potential epic at King William’s College where league leaders Douglas B take on defending champions PDMS Southern Nomads on Saturday.
This will be the first time these two have met this season with the earlier game being postponed.
Douglas go into the match as the form team, although Nomads do have a game in hand against Emerging Nomads which shouldn’t be forgotten.
Harry Brereton’s Nomads side has had a couple of weeks off with their free week unfortunately falling next to a postponed fixture.
The players will no doubt be champing at the bit, but could be a little rusty. Douglas on the other hand have been in tip-top form and for once, have had a settled side. Youngster James Quayle had a steady enough game at stand-off last Saturday and is likely to feature again. It will be a good test for him to run his game with Nomads hit man Rob Keelan snapping at his heels for 80 minutes.
In the backs, Carl Conroy and Jack Moore will be the playmakers for Douglas and Nomads skipper Brereton will line up against them, looking for maximum disruption.
This could be very tight but I just favour Nomads to sneak it.
In the other Shimmin Wilson Shield game this weekend Vagabonds B face Emerging Nomads at Ballafletcher. Vagas struggled for numbers last Saturday but will be keen to make amends this week. Nomads, however, are a resilient bunch and if Vagas take them too lightly, they’re capable of winning this game.
