A REDUNDANT industrial warehouse at Ronaldsway industrial estate could be converted into an entertainment, leisure and activities centre.
Arwen Ltd has applied (12/01388/C) to government planners to change the use of Castle Industries for ‘events and entertainment for private and public events and leisure activities’.
In its submission, the company, which owns the site, said there was currently a plan in place to use the building for private and public events for an average of three events a month.
The events would take place on Friday-Sunday, and the number of people attending would not exceed 500. The expected opening times would be 9am-midnight for no more than an eight hour period.
It continues: ‘The plan going forward is to use the building for more regular activities.
‘The expected opening times of the building would be determined by what type of entertainment, events and facilities the building would actually be used for and the opening and closing times would be as allowed by the Isle of Man licensing court as entertainment related licences would be required.’
There is on-site private parking for 95 cars and further parking for 20 cars.
In 2007 planners approved a plan (07/00032/C), not taken up, to change the use of a warehouse to a family leisure centre.
Meanwhile, in 2010, planners approved (10/00350/B) a plan by Belfast-based Movie House Cinemas Ltd to convert the same site to provide leisure facilities including 10 pin bowling and a restaurant.
