Castletown’s Mick Shipley was the toast of Poulsom Park on Saturday when he ran in three tries as Town defeated Ramsey B 44-5 in the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield.
There were also two tries from Barry Irvine, before he was stretchered off with what was thought to be a serious leg injury. It was later confirmed that the Town talisman had damaged his lateral collateral ligament in his knee, which will hopefully not rule him out as long as first feared.
South Africa front-row powerhouse Ruan Badenhorst also bagged a brace for he southerners with centre Will Stanton also crossing the whitewash.
Town scrum-half Chris Mash added two conversions.
Ramsey’s consolation score came from prop Orry Watterson.
In the other Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield game, Douglas B brushed aside Western Vikings 27-6 at a very damp Port-e-Chee.
Skipper Mike Sheeley was on target with the boot for Vikings, kicking two penalties.
The match between Southern Nomads and Emerging Nomads was postponed after Thursday’s heavy rain left King William’s College unplayable.
