KING of the deadpan one-liners Milton Jones is heading to town next week.
On Wednesday (October 17) night the multi-award winning comedian will be appearing live at the Villa Marina to help raise funds for island charity Junior Achievement Isle of Man.
Milton is a regular panellist on Mock the Week (BBC2), and was recently seen on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow (BBC1). He has also just had his ninth radio series commissioned for BBC Radio 4.
The 48-year-old was born and raised in Kew, London, although his father is from South Wales. He studied dramatic art at Middlesex Polytechnic before becoming a comedian and making his TV and radio debuts in 1996. Later that year he won the Perrier Best Newcomer award at Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the rest, as they say, is history.
He is the current Chortle website Headliner of the Year and this year Another Case of Milton Jones won the silver Sony Radio Academy Award. And his recent television appearances include The Royal Variety Performance (ITV), Comedy Rocks (ITV) and The Rob Brydon Show (BBC2), for which he also worked as a writer.
In 2009, the married father-of-three wrote a partially biographical novel Where Do Comedians Go When They Die: Journeys of A Stand-Up. He is also a Christian who has written Ten Second Sermons, a book with biblical and church-based one-liners.
Milton tours the British Isles regularly as well as performing routinely at The Comedy Store in London and Manchester. While in the island, he will be supported by Hal Cruttenden, one of the top comedians working in Britain today who is also a highly accomplished writer and actor.
The charity gig is sponsored by Celton Manx and supported by 3FM.
As well as Milton, Junior Achievement will also host several other events in the coming months.
The Stars of the X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent, which features last year’s X Factor runner-up Marcus Collins plus Craig Colton, Jamie Archer and Signature, will head to the Villa on Friday, November 30.
The night will also include a guest appearance from Asteria, winners of the charity’s Next Big Thing competition, and new island teen pop band Ever Young.
Tickets are £25. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
The charity will then bring over the Briefcase Blues Brothers for a Villa show on Friday, December 14. Tickets are £20.
And the Next Big Thing competition, with a £500 cash prize, will be hosted in the Gaiety Theatre on Saturday, February 23. Tickets are £10.
There are still some tickets left for Milton.
They cost £23 and are available from the box office on 600555 or online at www.villagaiety.com
The show, which starts at 8.15pm, is not suitable for under-16s.
