IT has been almost three weeks since Kevin Walton’s pet tortoise went missing.

The police have been informed and there has been no sign of him.

Mr Walton, of Woodside Terrace, in Douglas, fears Rupert, a 12-inch-long Greek spur-thigh tortoise, was stolen from his garden. He hopes that the family pet of about 20 years has gone into hibernation.

‘If he has not been taken and he’s found somewhere to dig in that I don’t know of then I’m not going to know until next March or April,’ he said.

Mr Walton noticed Rupert, aged 25, was missing on November 17, having last seen him two days earlier.

Speaking shortly after he noticed Rupert’s disappearance, he said: ‘They live as long as we do. I will pass him on to my partner’s son and he will look after him until he runs his course.’

Anyone who finds the tortoise, who is microchipped, is asked to take him to the nearest police station.

Alternatively, anyone with information should contact police headquarters on 631212.
