THE sun came out as thousands of people attended the Royal Manx Agricultural Show.

The annual event, which was held at Knockaloe Farm in Patrick, proved hugely popular, attracting bumper visitor numbers.

Approximately 12,000 people of all ages turned up to the show’s 60th celebrations during Friday and Saturday.

Supreme Champion was Island Francis, a Hereford Bull owned by Derek Griffin, which had won the major prize at the Southern Show two weeks earlier.

Reserve Supreme Champion was a Limousin Bull, Orrisdale Caribou, owned by the Kermode Family of Orrisdale Farm, Ballasalla.

Second Reserve was a dairy Holstein calf owned by Neil and Vicky Masson and Third Reserve was the Kermode family’s home-bred aged Texel ewe.

Champion Light Horse, winning the Celia Hedges Trophy, was Hannah Bettridge with Applejack.

Christine Pain, the show secretary, was very pleased with the event. She said: ‘We are absolutely delighted, the show is an awful lot of work for a lot of people including volunteers, who do so much.

‘It is a wonderful team effort. It has been a great success, we had lots and lots of people here. We’ve had very positive feedback and everyone seemed happy.

‘I love the way it brings everybody together, it is a community event and a lot of people from the UK came over for it.’

Derek and Alison Kermeen, of Ballaterson Farm, Maughold were the winners of the Department of Environmental, Food and Agriculture ‘Tomorrow’s Farmer’ award.

The Judges’ Special Award for a Young Farmer, sponsored by Shoprite, was awarded to Neil and Vicky Masson, Ballacricket Farm, Ronague, who impressed the judges with their focussed and positive approach to farming.
