A visiting motorcyclist was killed yesterday (Friday) evening following a collision in St John’s.

The incident happened at around 4.50pm on the main road between Tynwald Hill and Ballaleece Bridge.

The 67-year-old man from Hull, who was riding a Triumph bike, collided with a Suzuki motorcycle carrying a man and woman from Liverpool.

He was treated for his injuries by the public, police and paramedics at the scene, but was pronounced dead on his arrival at Noble’s Hospital.

The rider and pillion passenger of the other bike were also treated for their injuries at the scene and taken to Noble’s Hospital, where they remain for treatment.

The road was closed for several hours while investigations were carried out.

Senior investigating officer Inspector Dave Dobbie said: ‘Investigations are continuing into this very sad incident. I would like to thank members of the public who stopped and assisted with first aid at the scene prior to the arrival of the emergency services.

‘If anybody who has not already been spoken to by the police, and has either witnessed the collision or has information in relation to it, please get in touch with Roads Policing Unit at Headquarters on 01624 631212.’

The incident is the second death on open roads during this year’s TT festival. A 55-year-old man from Bolton in Lancashire died after crashing on the Mountain Road on Thursday morning.
