The opening games in the Isle of Man Premiership cricket season will be played this Saturday.
Out at Mullen-e-Cloie, champions Peel and St John’s start their defence of the title against Crosby. This could be a tricky encounter for Ollie Webster’s XI as those Greeba rivals are capable of causing an upset.
The Marown side had a good win in the Tinker over Valkyres with Joey Rothwell taking a staggering six wickets for six runs. That should sound a warning to the Saints.
Ramsey start their year with a home fixture against the Schools XI. The youngsters have so far posted mixed results, winning one game by 135 runs and losing the other by eight wickets.
The northern club are now led by Marc Pons-Burt and are a side in transition. The older players are giving way to the youth element and fans say Ramsey are unlikely to be challenging for Premiership honours this season. Just how strong they will be should become clear in the coming weeks.
