The gates to long-closed Ramsey Pier have been unlocked for the first time in approximately 25 years.
Around 50 people joined campaigners from the Queen’s Pier Restoration Trust on Sunday at a symbolic unlocking ceremony.
Campaigners hope to restore the entire pier which will cost an estimated £1.5m.
Event though the gates to the landmark have been opened, the pier and its entrance will remain out of bounds to members of the public on safety grounds for the time being.
However the unlocking does mean that a survey of the pier can begin ahead of restoration getting under way.
A full survey of the landmark’s 55 bays is likely to take two months to complete.
A crowdfunding page has been set up to raise £40,000 to rebuild the first bay.
