A teenager from Douglas has been jailed for nine months for three offences of burglary, theft and deception.
Anthony Robert Collis, aged 18, of Castlemona Avenue, admitted entering a house in Barrule Drive, Willaston, on October 19.
He gained access by climbing through a downstairs window left open for the family’s pet cat.
Collis took around £10 from a purse and 100 cigarettes as the owner’s of the house slept upstairs.
The first the family knew of the crime was when their son discovered his dinner money was missing in the morning.
At the time, Collis was already on bail for another burglary in Derby Square where he stole an Xbox video game and memory card from an acquaintance’s flat.
He then sold the items to Faze 2 in Douglas for £77.
Collis told police he stole because he was desperately short of money and needed it to pay a gas bill.
The teenager was due to be sentenced at 10am on Friday morning but failed to turn up in court.
Collis eventually arrived at court at 12.15pm after a warrant had been issued for his arrest.
