The long winter is almost over and the excitement of the opening Isle of Man closed roads motorsport event of the year, the Manx Classic is now just one month away.

Organisers of the Ramsey Crookall and Mylchreests-supported event are therefore reminding drivers to act quickly to secure their place in April’s sprint and hill climbs as the deadline looms for submission.Manx Motor Racing Club have been running the event successfully since 1989 and this year will run to the familiar format that offers competitors the chance to compete on three different sections of the iconic TT course over three days.

The opening day on Thursday, April 28 will take in the Governor’s Sprint in Douglas, based at the TT Grandstand and using the Glencrutchery Road and Governor’s dip, with afternoon practice before the timed runs in the evening. Spectator viewing is free on the Grandstand throughout.

On the Friday the action heads west, switching from a sprint to the Creg Willey’s hill climb based on the Glen Helen section of the TT course from Glen Mooar to Cronk-y-Voddy.

The event concludes on the Saturday with one of the best-known hill climbs in UK motorsport, Lhergy Frissell, taking in the run from Ramsey hairpin though the Waterworks and Gooseneck sections of the course, offering stunning vistas of Ramsey bay, although the drivers may be a tad busy to take in the view!

For spectators, however, both the start and Gooseneck offer a fun-filled day of motorsport as drivers push to scrape every hundredth of a second from their times.

The event has classes to cater for all cars, from vintage through to the most modern and in particular may be ideal for local rally drivers, falling as it does one week before the Manx National Rally.

Drivers can enter individual days or all three for best value, and each day consists of practice and then timed runs to offer a highly competitive weekend of sport in the relaxed and social atmosphere that the event is known for.

Online entry is available at www.manxmotorracing.com while regulations plus hotel and sailing information is also on the site.

Entries close this Saturday.
