NO order will need to be made in Tynwald to allow the Michael Primary School landswap deal to go ahead, the House of Keys heard.
Michael MHK Alf Cannan asked Education Minister Peter Karran (Lib Van, Onchan MHK) whether an order had been made under schedule 2 of the Education Act. But Mr Karran replied that no such order had been made and the legal advice given to his officers suggested none was needed as the proposal would not materially affect either the school building or its capacity.
Under the deal with developer Heritage Homes, the Department of Education and Children has agreed to convey part of the school’s corner field fronting Douglas Road for a new housing development. In exchange, it will get 2.01 acres of land to the north and east of the school.
