Time for Peel to get points on the board in title chase

Peel will be hoping for a Canada Life Premier run out for the first time since November 21 on Saturday.

Steve Falconer’s side’s recent outings have been limited to the Paddy Power FA Cup with postponements severely hampering their title tilt.

For the first half of the season they were matching league leaders St George’s stride for stride, but the last three months has seen the reigning champions play four league games and open up a 12-point lead at the top.

Geordies have also hit the goal trail in that period netting 31 times to boost their goal difference to a mighty 103. Peel’s GD remains at 56 and they need to start racking up the big wins if they are to force a title showdown and prevent Geordies claiming a sixth top-flight crown in a row.

The Sunset City side face Laxey this weekend who themselves were on the receiving end of one of Geordies’ recent lashings.

The Miners narrowly squeezed past Malew in the FA Cup last Saturday and will be looking to produce an improved performance. However, the title incentive for Falconer’s men should see them claim the points against their manager’s former club.

Another big win could be on the cards for St George’s as they host second-bottom Ramsey at Glencrutchery Road.

The northerners need points for their survival bid but will come across a Geordies side in top form and almost scoring at will.

Corinthians are another of the league’s form sides and they host Union Mills at the weekend.

The Whites are up to fourth in the table after a run of just one defeat in their last six and should be favourites to claim the points from a young Mills team that is only out of the bottom two on goal difference.

Ayre sit alongside Mills and Marown on 12 points, but also face a testing fixture with an away trip to DHSOB.

Old Boys have only played three times since November, but should still have enough in their attacking arsenal to see off their hard-working visitors.

Marown have lost their last seven games after a promising start to life back in the top-flight. Dave Brew’s men face Rushen at Croit Lowey in a game that the latter should win.
