A HERCULEAN effort at the weekend saw the Guinness Word Record for the number of ladder climbs in 24 hours smashed by a team of 10 Isle of Man firefighters.
The attempt, which has so far raised £10,000, began on Friday afternoon in Regent Street, Douglas and at 2.10pm on Saturday the record, held by New Zealand firefighters, was beaten as firefighter Gary Kirby did the 10,960th climb. At the end of the 24 hours the team had reached a whopping 11,417.
