Weather continues to play havoc with football fixtures

Isle of Man FA fixtures guru Tony Mepham must beginning to wonder when he’ll catch a break.

Laxey’s Cu-Plas Railway Cup semi-final with holders St George’s was called-off for a third time on Wednesday with St John’s floodlit Mullen-e-Cloie pitch waterlogged.

The two teams will try and get the game played for a fourth time on Saturday, first at Glen Road and then if that is deemed unplayable at Glencrutchery Road.

With the weather forecast predicting yet more rain as the week goes on a pitch inspection at 11am on the morning of the tie will decide if and where the game is played.

The twice called off Old Firm semi between Peel and Rushen is also down to be played at the weekend at Douglas Road. If the semis don’t go ahead this week we could be looking at a January 3 final.

The Canada Life Premier League has three games on its agenda at the time of going to press.

St George’s were also due to be in top-flight action at St Mary’s but this game has been postponed with Geordies’ Railway Cup tie taking precedence.

The other fixtures involve teams in and around the bottom three.

Bottom side RYCOB were chomping at the bit to take on relegation rivals Ramsey at the weekend before the Ballacloan pitch was declared unfit.

Fellow promoted side Marown make the trip to Scooil Ree Gorree this weekend. The Crosby outfit have lost their last four on the bounce and Youthie may sniff a first win of the season.

Second-bottom Ramsey travel over the mountain to Union Mills trying to close the gap on the Millers and safety. Ramsey currently trail the Garey Mooar side by six points and know a win would move them back to within striking distance of their hosts.

Mills, however, have won two of their last three and should edge the encounter.

Only a point separates St John’s and Ayre in the standings and the two are set to meet at Mullen-e-Cloie on Saturday.

The Tangerines won the reverse fixture 3-1, but with both inconsistent to say the least this once could go either way.
