A CHARITY that makes it easier for old people to live alone held a tea party to celebrate the jubilee.

Isle of Man ‘Live at Home’ schemes served afternoon tea to 200 clients of the island’s six schemes and members of the public.

An army of volunteers, including members of the sixth forms from Ramsey Grammar and St Ninian’s High School who are currently visiting Live at Home members in their areas, rose to the challenge and served tea, coffee and delicious homemade sandwiches and cakes at the Methodist Church, Loch Promenade, Douglas.

The tea was accompanied by musical entertainment in the form of a solo saxophonist and there was a jubilee-themed feel to the afternoon’s celebrations with the hall being decorated in red, white and blue and even the attendance of – the Queen.Well, a life-sized cardboard cutout of her anyway.

Jan Farrell, from Isle of Man Live at Home Schemes, said: ‘We are delighted with the turnout, our members have enjoyed a great day, and it is through the hard work of all the volunteers here today, particularly the representatives of Ramsey Grammar and St Ninian’s High Schools, we couldn’t have done it without them.

‘We are also extremely grateful to, Ramsey Bakery, Mann Vend Ltd, Shoprite and Isle of Man Creameries for their generous donations of ingredients for the day and to Charles Alexander, Saba’s Glen Yurts, The Art Store, Palace Hotel and Casino and Corlett’s the Jewellers for very kindly donating our fantastic raffle prizes.’ We would also like to thank Alliance and Leicester International for all their help and support; we were the recipients of one of their Twelve Days of Christmas Awards, which has given our fundraising efforts a tremendous boost.

‘We are a small charity but we are working hard to support as many older people as we can on the island and this has been a success for us not only through our members enjoying the day, but making the public more aware of what we do and perhaps consider becoming a volunteer or member themselves
