Flautist Victoria Wright has been named Young Musician of Mann 2015.

The contest, held at the Erin Arts Centre every two years, is open to instrumentalists under the age of 19.

Victoria was awarded the Malcolm Dickinson Memorial Prize of £250, a cup from the Rotary Club of Rushen and Western Mann and an Arts Council glass goblet.

In joint second was flautist Amelia Crossley, aged 15, of Port Erin, and accordian player Owen Williams, 14, of Colby. The special plaque in memory of Marian Shimmin was awarded to 13-year-old trumpet player Toby Crossley, of Port Erin, as the most promising competitor.

Victoria, who is in the final year of her A levels at Ballakermeen High School, has passed grade eight on two instruments and has set up her own wind ensemble.

She has been principal flute of the Manx Youth Orchestra for the past year.

Victoria plans to study music at university and has so far received four offers.

The Young Singer 2016 contest takes place on May 15 with the final on June 19.
