Police are treating a car fire in Douglas as suspicious.

The white motor vehicle involved was parked near to a car showroom forecourt in the area of Rosemount.

This fire is understood to have occurred at about 1am on Sunday, and resulted in damage being caused to the interior of the vehicle and some of its contents.

Detective Sergeant Neil Craig said: ‘The matter is at this time being investigated as a suspicious fire in conjunction with fire investigation officers from the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service.

‘I can confirm that although there were several people in the area at that time, thankfully nobody was injured.

‘As a result of inquiries which have been made, two people have been arrested in connection with this incident and are currently the subject of police bail while further inquiries are made.

‘This incident appears at this time to be an isolated one, but I would like to remind people to be vigilant to anything which they may perceive to be suspicious as well as appealing to anyone who may have any information about this matter, no matter how small they may feel this is, or who may have been in the area at the time and seen any smoke, fire or anything else of significance to contact my colleagues at police headquarters on 631212.

‘Alternatively I would like to remind members of the public that information can also be given about this, or any other crime, anonymously via Crimestoppers, which is an organisation unconnected to the police, on 0800 555 111 where a reward may be payable as a result of your information.’
