The Isle of Man is gearing up for a packed diary of events to mark our national day.

Thousands of people are expected to travel to St John’s on Thursday for the Tynwald Day ceremony as well as a range of other events taking place nearby.

The ceremonial occasion starts at 9.45am when the guard of honour, military band, the standard bearers and all participating local units, branches and organisations and secondary school students meet at St John’s School car park.

At 10.10am, school students proceed to Tynwald Hill, led by the Onchan Silver Band and the Manx Flag.

At 10.20am the Band of the Royal Air Force Regiment, leading the guard of honour, the standard bearers and the local units and organisations march on.

Guests move across Tynwald Green to take their places on the Processional Way at 10.28am.

Lieutenant Governor Adam Wood will arrive at 10.37am to a fanfare by trumpeters of The Fanfare Team of the Central Band of the Royal Air Force.

At 10.40am processions from the Robing Room to the Royal Chapel begin. Mr Wood will inspect the guard of honour and the front rank of the military band. His Excellency then places a wreath at the National War Memorial followed by a one-minute silence.

Those attending the service inside the Royal Chapel then make their way inside for the start of the service at 11am.

Proceedings then move to Tynwald Hill with the procession of Tynwald members, captains of the parishes, members of the judiciary and dignitaries made their way to the hill. The 20 acts passed in the last 12 months will be promulgated in English and Manx.

After that, the island’s former First Deemster Jack Corrin will receive the Tynwald Honour.

The public will then be invited to present petitions for redress of grievance.

MusicFest takes place in a number of locations. At the Manx Tent, opposite Tynwald Hill Inn, the line up is Fellowship of the Strings (4pm), Manx Saxophone Ensemble (4.30pm), Strengyn (5.15pm), Scammylt (6pm) and Ceilidh with King Chiaulee (8pm).

In the Royal Chapel Manx Gaelic singer Ruth Keggin will perfom at 6pm, followed by Mike Corkill (6.30pm), and the Regal Singers (8pm). Ellan Vannin Pipe Band will plat at Tynwald Hill at 10pm.

The Jim Caine Jazz Quartet will perform at the arboretum at 3.30pm.

And at Cooil y Ree musicians Matt Creer, Bluey and Sixpack, Final Cut and 8-Bit-Empire will perform from 3pm to 9.30pm.

Entertainment on the front green features: Manx Folk Dance Society (9.45am), Grand Manx Dance (1pm), The Play People Circus Show (2pm and 4.30pm), dog agility trials (2.30pm), Isle of Man Wind Orchestra (3.30pm), Samba Mann (5.15pm), The Band of the Royal Corps of Signals (7.15pm), and a fire show (10.30pm).

The One World Centre will have a Global Village, for charities working internationally and groups and individuals to share their country’s heritage.

It will be open at Garey Ny Cloie, in St John’s from midday until 5pm.
