There were goals galore in the Canada Life Premier League’s six games at the weekend.
With 35 goals raining in at an average of nearly six per match, it’s no wonder that the latest Team of the Week employs a attacking 3-3-4 formation.
The four-pronged attack netted nine of the weekend’s glut, starting on Friday evening when St John’s Richard Winn struck twice in his side’s 3-1 win over St John’s.
The former Braddan man also teed up Louis Morris to bag the Johnners’ third goal to rubber stamp his first TotW appearance of the season.
Slotting in alongside St John’s match-Winn-er are DHSOB’s hat-trick man Darren Hudgeon, Sean Doyle (Corinthians) and the in-form Ciaran McNulty (St George’s).
Hudgeon’s treble contributed to his side’s 9-2 win at Ayre, a result that keeps Colin Purvis’s Blackberry Lane side in the mix for the division’s fourth and final Cu-Plas Railway Cup spot.
Doyle’s side Corinthians also remain in with a mathmatical chance of featuring in the Yuletide competition after the ex-Marown man scored a brace as Union Mills were beaten 5-1.
McNulty earns his sixth TotW stripes of the season after he netted a first-half brace as the league leaders triumphed 5-0 at Ramsey.
The goals aren’t merely confined to the hypothetical XI’s attack, with two of the side’s three-man midfield also troubling the scorers.
St George’s Chris Bass Jr warmed up for the Isle of Man FA’s Inter-League Cup tie in Cheshire with a goal and an impressive performance at Ballacloan.
A rare strike from Rushen’s Alex Guy capped a good showing in the Spaniards’ engine room as the Croit Lowey outfit triumphed 4-1 at Marown to clinch their Railway Cup semi-final spot.
Pacey Corinthians’ winger Kane Ridings completes the midfield trio after a man of the match performance for the Whites against Union Mills.
Slotting into the team’s back three are Sam Ingham (St John’s), Tommy Miller (DHSOB) and Peel’s evergreen full-back Danny Lace.
Ingham was one of the Johnners to shine under the lights of Mullen-e-Cloie on Friday evening as his side beat St Mary’s to record a first win in five games.
Fellow centre-back Miller impressed for Old Boys’ defence as they inflicted a fourth successive defeat on Ayre.
Lace was Peel’s top performer as they beat Laxey 3-1 at Glen Road to keep the pressure on Geordies at the top of the standings.
Claiming the coveted number one jersey for a second time this season is Mark Kinley. The Marown stopper edges out Union Mills’ Christian Cellamare for a place in the side after making some tremendous saves against Rushen.
Landing the Referee of the Week mantle for the first time this season is Jonny Hogg after he impressed with the whistle during Corinthians’ triumph at Union Mills.
