THE 41st World Tin Bath Championships take place this Saturday, July 7 in the middle harbour at Castletown, starting at 2.30pm.

This year’s event has attracted entries from more than 90 competitors around the world. Defending champion Nick Cain is likely to have stiff opposition from his cousin, Lee Cain, along with Trevor Marsham of South Africa and Garth Jones of Walney Island.

The women’s race includes 13-times winner Erika Cowin who is returning in a bid to win back the title from her daughter Greta. Australian champion Frances Thornton will be raising funds for the Flying Doctor Service.

Also a popular attraction is the snake race with 20 or more teams of four men and two women in linked rubber innertubes, while intrepid birdmen and women will attempt to self-powered flight off the end of the pier.

The event is run by Castletown Ale Drinkers Society and is sponsored by Jameson Whiskey, Heron and Brearley, Capital International, The Vineyard, Close Private bank, Tower Insurance, 3FM and PokerStars.

All the proceeds from the day will go to local charities.
